If you filed your annual return and it resulted in a positive balance, it's natural to wonder how long it will take the Tax Administration Service (SAT) to issue the corresponding refund. The wait time may vary depending on the type of refund and the accuracy of the information provided.

Deadlines for the return of the balance in favor

1. Automatic refund: When the return is filed correctly and without inconsistencies, the SAT may automatically issue a refund. In these cases, the deposit is usually made within an average of 12 business days after the return is filed.

2. Manual refund request: If the refund is not processed automatically, a manual request must be submitted using the Electronic Refund Form (FED). In this case, the SAT has up to 40 business days to process and deposit the balance.

Factors that may delay the return

Several factors can influence the time it takes for the SAT to process the refund:

  • Errors in the declaration: Inconsistencies in the data provided, such as errors in the RFC or CLABE account, may delay the process.
  • Additional review: If the SAT deems it necessary to further review the return, it may request additional information, which will extend the refund period.
  • Amount of balance in favor: Refunds above certain amounts may require further review.

Recommendations to expedite the return

To ensure a smooth and prompt return, please consider the following:

  • Check your details: Make sure your RFC, CLABE account, and other information are correct and up-to-date.
  • Use the e.signature: Submitting your return with an e-signature can make the process easier and reduce waiting times.
  • Review your deductions: Confirm that all deductions are supported by the corresponding tax receipts.
  • Check the status: Monitor the status of your refund on the SAT portal, in the "Refunds and Compensations" section.

Remember that, according to Article 22 of the Federal Tax Code, the SAT has up to 40 business days to resolve refund requests.
