Once your company is established in the country, you must know what taxes are paid in Mexico to carry out adequate tax compliance before the SAT,
In Mexico, there are different types of taxes, the most common being:
- Income Tax (ISR)
- Value Added Tax (VAT)
- Special Tax on Production and Services (IEPS)
This is the income tax or also called corporate, which is calculated by subtracting the authorized deductions from the income and the determined profit is multiplied by the ISR rate which is 30%, as shown below:

The ISR is paid on an estimated monthly basis and no later than March 31 of the following fiscal year, the annual declaration of said tax is presented, reducing the monthly payments made during the year.
This is the sales tax, which is levied on both the sale of goods and services. This tax is paid monthly based on the following rates:
- 16%: is the general rate of the country
- 8%: for territorial areas of the northern and southern border of the country
- 0%: for export and primary activities
To the VAT of the sales of your goods and services (Transferred VAT) you must deduct the VAT paid for the goods and services (VAT Creditable) acquired in the month.
Said tax was calculated as follows:
Amount of the good or services charged $100,000 Amount of the good or service paid $50,000
(X) VAT rate 16% (X) VAT rate 16%
( = ) Transferred VAT $ 16,000 (=) Creditable VAT $ 8,000
Calculation:
Transferred VAT $16,000
Creditable VAT $ 8,000
VAT payable $ 8,000
Special Tax on Production and Services (IEPS)
This tax is paid on the production, sale or import of gasoline, alcohol, tobacco, among other goods mainly. Rates vary according to the product and its preparation.

In addition to the taxes mentioned in this article, you should consider that if you hire employees in Mexico, you must pay the Payroll Tax (ISN) to the state and contributions from Social Security to the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS).
