How to import goods to Mexico?

Due to its privileged geographical location and its market of 127 million people, Mexico is an excellent option for importing goods.

In order to legally introduce goods into the country you must have the following:

  • be registered at Federal Taxpayer Registry (RFC).
  • Be up to date with your tax situation.
  • Count on your e.signature
  • Obtain your registration in the Register of Importers.
  • In the case of chemical products, hydrocarbons, explosive materials, among others, you must obtain registration in the Registry of Importers of Specific Sectors.
  • Carry out the assignment conferred on the customs agent.
  • Make the payment of contributions and rights.
  • Carry inventory control systems.
  • Have the documents required by the authorities.

Here are the steps to follow to be able to import goods:

1.- Create your company in Mexico, remember that if you are a foreigner you can also do them.

2.- Obtain the Federal Taxpayer Registry (RFC) of your company.

3.- Process a bank account.

4.- Request the address verification to the Tax Administration Service (SAT)

5.- Investigate the permits and certifications required for the importation of your specific merchandise

6.- Obtain your list of importers.

7.- Hire the services of a customs broker and logistics company.

8.- To avoid the suspension of your list of importers, you must be up to date with your tax obligations.
